›living surface ambient media‹ on the world’s leading trade fair for architecture and technology

Light, space and objects are coming to life with interactive surfaces on floors, walls and tables created with ›living surface‹. That is this year’s motto for ›vertigo systems‹ appearance on the word’s leading trade fair for architecture and technology in Frankfurt. The latest advances in display technology have a great impact on the creative possibilities for interactive furniture design and light design. ›living surface‹ is turning over a new leaf in ambient media. Stackable seamless squared displays have just become available to the market. We already power them with ›living surface‹. Extraordinary display configurations in conjunction with interactive content are opening a new dimension for interactive light sculptures. The integration of interactive surfaces based on flat screens into well-designed furniture is the key concept for fascinating bars, counters and spa designs. Come and see the flexibility of ›living surface‹ on our booth A21 in hall 1.1 from April 11 until April 16, 2010.

Westgate in Cologne
an unusual real estate project wraps itself in a crossmedia hoarding

Westgate is the name of an innovative office and shopping building project that is currently under way in the German city Cologne. Its design strictly follows the latest trends in energy efficiency and has already been officially awarded as a „GreenBuilding“ according to the regulations of the European Union. An unusual construction project requires an unusual wrapping. That’s why the property developer MEAG decided for a crossmedia concept for the building’s hoarding. A design team of the local university used ›living surface‹ to turn the 80m hoarding into an inspiring interactive element in the city’s architectural landscape.

A central element among the huge macroscopic pictures showing the natural elements stone, water and air is the interactive video installation based on ›living surface‹. Animated sequences of fresh sparkling water demonstrate the use of renewable natural ressources to cool and to heat the building. Every passer-by can easily catch a glimpse of the future building if he or she makes an intuitive gesture to wipe the water away in order to reveal underlying pictures of the future building. The interactive installation is a great example how ›living surface‹ can serve to enhance the experience of architectural spaces.
